Center of Gravity

Kommunikation hat einen Schwerpunkt.
Liegt er richtig, hält sie Druck aus.

Center of Gravity berät Organisationen, deren Erfolg von öffentlicher Wahrnehmung abhängt.

Communication has a centre of gravity.
If it sits in the right place, it holds under pressure.

Center of Gravity advises organisations whose success depends on public perception. We find the centre of gravity and build the structure that carries it.

Arbeitsfelder

Kommunikationsarchitektur

Practice areas

Communication architecture

Every organisation has a communicative structure: who speaks, who decides, how information flows when things have to move fast. It is rarely designed on purpose; mostly it simply grows. We make it visible and rebuild it together with you, from positioning to roles, processes and sign-offs to media strategy.

Interim communication lead

Some ventures depend on public perception: a funding round, a permit, the acceptance of a major project. For that phase we take on communication responsibility operationally and for a defined period, embedded in your organisation. With a clear beginning, middle and end: build, run, hand over.

Dress rehearsal

What has to hold under pressure must be practised first. We rehearse the moments that matter: the press conference, the town hall on an infrastructure project, the staff meeting during a restructuring, the interview that cannot be cancelled. Under real time pressure and with real journalists, while it can still be done without consequences.

Vorgehen

Erst verstehen. Dann bauen. Dann proben.

Die Generalprobe zeigt, was trägt.

Approach

First understand. Then build. Then rehearse.

Good communication is not a matter of individual appearances but of a structure that makes them possible. That is why every engagement follows three steps.

Diagnosis

We look at which path decisions actually take, who asks whom, where information gets stuck and at which point an organisation falls silent. Through conversations, through analysis and, where it makes sense, through a simulation used as a measuring instrument. None of that is in the manual, because it cannot be.

Architecture

Findings turn into changes. Responsibilities, reporting lines, sign-offs, availability, language conventions, positioning. What does not work is usually not a failure of people but a construction fault. We fix it.

Rehearsal

Only once a structure has stood under pressure can it be relied on. The dress rehearsal shows what holds. Then it is no longer a test but the proof.

Methode

Echte Journalisten. Keine Rollenkarten.

Method

Real journalists. No role cards.

In most exercises the trainer plays the reporter. The result is a conversation among colleagues in which everyone knows that nothing can happen. We work differently. Our journalists do this for a living and ask the same questions they would ask the next day. With a camera, a microphone and a deadline.

It is uncomfortable, which is exactly why it works. Anyone who has once stood under real pressure reacts differently when it counts. The recording stays with you, the debrief follows immediately, and what stood out is named.

Wer dahintersteht

Center of Gravity arbeitet ohne festen Apparat.

Who stands behind this

Center of Gravity works without a fixed apparatus. For every engagement we bring together the people it needs: journalists from broadcast, print and agencies, specialists for security and infrastructure, psychologists for high stress situations, lawyers for procedural questions, actors for roles that have to convince. The line up follows the case, not the payroll.

Founded and led by Robert Uitz-Dallinger. Around thirty years in journalism, most of them with the Austrian public broadcaster ORF for Ö3, Ö1 and the flagship news ZiB, as correspondent in Washington and Rome, around ten years of reporting from conflict zones, team lead of the political talk show “Im Zentrum”. Most recently head of communications and spokesperson at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure. He teaches strategy in the journalism programme at FH Wien and knows both sides of the microphone.
